“Everything started happening and moving since the day you called me.  Everything’s gotten brighter, better, and a lot easier with you in my corner.  When you say you’re going to do something, I know I can count on you to do it.  I’ve never met you in person, but I know I can count on you and you’re a good person.  We need more people like you in this world, who care about others and who are willing to go the extra mile because nobody cares anymore, too many excuses.  I appreciate everything you have done for me.”

Larry

Obtained a security deposit and first month’s rent to avoid parole violation, free furniture for apartment, clarified Medicaid providers to cover dentures and prescription coverage

After a week of calls, I was following up with a gentleman to let him know I was able to schedule an appointment for him at a free clinic.

“I had already given up, but I see you didn’t.  Thank you so much.”

Mr. D

Enrolled in PAP program, was seen at clinic and able to get prescriptions he couldn’t afford.

One gentleman called because his groceries were not going to last longer than a few days and he would not receive his Social Security for another 2 weeks. I made 12 calls only to determine there were no emergency food delivery services in his area.  The last food pantry I spoke to, told me it was outside their service area but they would deliver a box of food to him.

“I was really worried, but I know I can always depend on you for help.”

Mr. B

“After a month of working with the social worker, we got nowhere and no help.  After two phone calls and a day later, my father now has a full tank of oil to keep him warm.  I can’t thank you enough.”

Mr. C

Completed online LIHEAP application through COMPASS for a crisis grant.

I told Mr. D I was proud of him for the step he took to get on the path towards helping himself get better. He expressed his gratitude in return because I had taken time to make calls to find someone for him to go talk to that would hopefully be able to help him.

Mr. D

Assisted with Mr. D’s enrollment into Catholic Charities counseling program

I spoke to a Veteran who needed help getting back and forth to appointments in Lebanon.  There was no longer a bus route running from Berks County to Lebanon County.  When I contacted the VA, they urged me to have him contact them directly so they could set him up with transportation that he needed so he wouldn’t have to cancel any more appointments.

Mr. P

Completed application for bus transportation as well as Donated Dental Services for dentures.

With winter rapidly approaching, Helen was concerned about the cost of oil.  Her oil provider did not have a budget billing program and required a minimum $200 purchase for delivery.  I found an organization that was able to send a check to the oil provider on her behalf and ensure she will be warm this winter.

Robert was incredibly overwhelmed and frustrated as he tried to coordinate coverage between his Medicare Part D Insurance Plan, his Copay Assistance Fund and his pharmacy.  Through several calls to his insurance plan and the pharmacy’s corporate office, The Clearinghouse representative was able to resolve his billing and coverage issues.  As a result of her persistence, Robert was able to receive his medication by coordinating the proper benefits and coverage for his past and future claims.

I have worked with Jack for more than three years and his life has been challenging to say the least.  Over the years, I have counseled him, encouraged him, gave him strong words, and listened to him as he cried over the phone.  I helped Jack find assistance for his medications and food; however, his main source of discouragement was lack of secure housing.  Over two years, we searched, applied for, and waited for housing.  Jack finally reached the top of a waiting list and was offered an apartment.  I arranged moving assistance for him and three months later Jack called to let me know how he was doing.

“I am a new man!  I love this place!  I am in charge of the entertainment committee, I signed up for the coffee club, I catered an event, I’m baking and cooking for people, and I made lasagna for an event!  I’ve lost 42 pounds and my doctor is so happy with me!  Everyone loves me here!  The building manager told me I have the nicest apartment in the building!  I’ve been offered a job delivering packages to the residents in exchange for free rent!”

The Clearinghouse works with clients for as long as they need us.  We are proud of Jack for his perseverance and ecstatic he has finally found his purpose, has friends, and a place to call home!
